Below that is the display after I saved a copy normalized to 1.0. Below that is zoomed into the first track. I intentionally kept the recording level close to the -0.5 mark. wav form for Side One of Los Straijackets' Jet Set. My other question is if I can achieve better conversions if I substitute a mini Mac running OSX Lion (haven't upgraded to Mountain Lion yet) for the Dell laptop? I would have to do some equipment shuffling, but I can move it into the mix eventually. If I move it any higher, my input levels move up to 1.0. I have the Bellari output set to about 8, the ART USB GAIN Trim set to 0, and for some reason the input sliders in Audacity is set to 0.1.

I am running Audacity 2.0.2 with Audio Host set to MME and input set to Microphone / Line In (Sigma Tel), project Rate set to 44100 and Sample format set to 32 bit float.Īfter that bit of introduction, my question basically is that since I am only capable of 44/16 conversions, will there be any digital damage to the file if I use the Normalize effect (Audacity suggests to use -1.0dB) or Amplify effect, or if I use click removal? I was under the impression that changes can be made in 96/24 without any issues, but there are limits to modifications made to 44/16. The USB "Recording" goes through a standard Line In SimaTel High Definition Audio CODEC. A bit outdated, but it suits my purposes right now.

The ART USB connects through USB to an older Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop which runs on a 32bit Operating System under Windows 7 Home Premium with 2GB memory and Inter Core Duo CPU Ghz. I'm using a Music Hall mmf 2.2 turntable equipped with a Grado Prestige Red cartridge which is amplified by a Bellari VP129 and then output to the ART USB.

Someday I'll graduate to a 96/24, but for now this will suffice my needs for enjoying vinyl at home and playing a digital version in the car.

My ADC is an ART USB Phono Plus which is limited to 44/16 conversions. I want to start doing a few simple needledrops in order to digitize some of my vinyl so that I can transfer it over to my iPod to listen in the car. Hello all - I know that this topic has been raised here a few times, but I couldn't find an answer to all of my queries in one thread, so please forgive me recycling an old topic and my thanks in advance for your answers!
